Cinco de Mayo is around the corner, I love everything related to Mexico from colors, feast, music nevertheless the amazing food. Every celebration can’t be without a Pinata, and it would be even better if everyone gets their own Mini Pinata!

Every time we have a Mexican fiesta, I love to include Mini Pinata; they are so cute and add a nice touch to any party, plus everyone loves them.

We will be making the Maracas Mini Pinatas.

Inflate the balloon but just a little to give an oval shape, like a Maraca and then tie it. This will be the molding for the outer Pinata.

Mix the warm water with the flour until the flour gets fully dissolved in the water and becomes a thin paste. If it looks thick then add more room temperature water to thin it.

Step 3

Cut the newspaper or the magazine to small square shape pieces.

Step 4

Making the Mini Pinata Base

Dip the paper squares into the prepared flour paste and stick it flat onto the balloon to cover most of it, but make sure to leave a small area from the balloon knot uncovered. Cover the balloon with 3 layers of papers. You can place the balloon on top of a cup and leave it to dry for at least 8 hours; I usually leave it for the next day, but I make sure before I go to bed to flip the balloon upside down to allow the bottom side that was placed inside the cup to dry. You can also hang the balloon from the knot and leave it to dry.

Step 5

After the pinata base dries and become hard, it is time to pop the balloon and fill the Pinata with candy. Using the scissors cut the exposed part of the balloon and take it out, then fill the Pinata with candy and the confetti size tissue paper.

Step 6

Glue the 3 popsicle sticks together to make one thick stick, then wrap it with your desired color of the crepe paper streamer.

Put the Pinata base on a cup and make sure that the opened part is facing up. With a scissors cut about ¼ inch or less away from the end of the paper half way and start cutting the whole paper into equal sizes, then open the folded paper long side and make sure to keep it folded in half as shown in the picture below.

Step 8

Decorating the Mini Pinata

Start with the same color as the stick and wrap the exposed part with the crepe paper then glue the end.
